RecruitGibraltar are currently helping our client who is a leading insurance company with a global footprint, who has a great opportunity for a Personal Lines Underwriter to join this high performance team based in Ta’ Xbiex. What is the plan for the Underwriting Manager role?

As a member of the senior management team, ensure the accurate and consistent application of Group Underwriting Policy and the achievement of Group strategic goals and objectives. To develop and maintain relationships with all external stakeholders, such as brokers, clients, PR contacts etc. To manage the Commercial and Personal Lines Department.

What will you do as an Underwriting Manager?


Manage the underwriting teams and provide technical support in the underwriting and processing, of all lines of business.
Improve workflows and implement new performance measures.
Monitor client retention and develop new business through personal contact and other activities.
Develop and maintain business relationships with introducing brokers, TIIs and clients.
Prepare new business quotations and make presentations, where applicable, in respect of all classes of business.
Conduct underwriting surveys and high-risk visual inspections for prospective and existing clients.
Support the General Manager in devising a business plan and objectives to deliver Group wide objectives in AIAL. Work closely with the General Manager to achieve business goals set for the group as a whole.
Ensure the accurate and consistent application of Group underwriting and re-insurance limits for AIAL. Provide technical advice on all classes of business.
Contribute to the development and maintenance of appropriate/RI treaties for Malta.
Keep up to date with sector developments and maintain CPD.


What do you know that makes you a great Underwriting Manager?

Previous experience in an Insurance Manager role is a must.
5+ years experience in the insurance industry.
Professional qualification or advanced progress towards obtaining professional insurance qualification ie. ACII.
Computer literate with intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
Fluent in Maltese and English – written and spoken.


Salary €40k - €50k based on experience with benefits package.
